Internet & Phone Setup in Korea

Korea has the fastest internet in the world. Here's how to get connected.

Home Internet (WiFi)

Most apartments come with a pre-installed internet line. You just need to sign up with a provider.

Provider Speed Monthly Contract
KT (올레)500Mbps~10Gbpsβ‚©25,000~55,0003 years
SK Broadband500Mbps~10Gbpsβ‚©25,000~50,0003 years
LG U+500Mbps~10Gbpsβ‚©24,000~50,0003 years

πŸ’‘ Tips for Foreigners

  • β€’ You need an ARC (Alien Registration Card) to sign up
  • β€’ Ask your landlord which provider's line is installed β€” switching costs extra
  • β€’ 3-year contracts have early termination fees (β‚©100,000~200,000)
  • β€’ Installation takes 2-5 days after signup
  • β€’ Many realtors can help you sign up during move-in

No ARC yet? Temporary options:

  • β€’ Pocket WiFi rental β€” β‚©2,000~4,000/day at airport
  • β€’ Phone hotspot β€” Most plans include 100GB+ data
  • β€’ Goshiwon/Officetel β€” Often includes WiFi in rent

Common Issues

WiFi router password?

Check the sticker on the bottom of the router. Default is usually the serial number.

Internet too slow?

Call your ISP (KT: 100, SK: 106, LG: 101). Free technician visit within 1-2 days.

Can't verify Korean phone number?

Many apps require Korean phone auth (본인인증). You need a plan under your name with ARC registered.
